The flood of Noah’s day is something we read in the Bible, teach in Sunday School to our younger kids with almost fairy tale like pictures and books, with Noah and all the animals looking happy. However, that’s running on a slippery slope, because it makes the flood seem a fairy tale. When actually it was far from it. The flood in Genesis 7 and 8 was catastrophic, it was global, it completely reshaped the planet, as well as the weather. Everything and everyone perished except for Noah, his wife, his three sons, their wives, and two of every kind, (male and female) air breathing creatures, behemoth, dragons (dinosaurs as we call them now) and animals on the ark. At most 1,400 animal kinds were on the ark, kinds (the family level of our classification system). As you can see plenty of room on the ark.
71 percent of the earth’s surface is covered with water. Scientists have calculated that if all of the land surface and the ocean basins that exist today were leveled out so that there were no hills, valleys, deep ocean trenches, etc. the water in the oceans would cover the entire the earth to a depth of almost two miles.
So, if the oceans were not as deep as they are now or the high hills or mountains as high as the mountains are now. Then there would have been plenty of water to cover the whole earth that is described in Genesis 7. High mountains and deep oceans would have formed at the end after the flood.
Noah likely had 50-75 years to build the ark, not 100 years or 120 years. It seems Noah’s son were grown and married when God told Noah about the flood. Figure 25 years from the 500th year of Noah’s life when his sons were born. Other ideas of 100 years to build the ark come from versus talking about how old Noah was when his sons were born, Genesis 5:32 NKJV, the other for 120 year comes from Genesis 6:3 NKJV
And the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.”
So, the 100 years or 120 years can’t be used for the building of the ark.
Noah built the ark to Lord’s instructions, Genesis 6:14-16 ESV, 14Make yourself an ark of gopher wood. Make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and out with pitch. 15This is how you are to make it: the length of the ark 300 cubits, its breadth 50 cubits, and its height 30 cubits. 16Make a roof for the ark, and finish it to a cubit above, and set the door of the ark in its side. Make it with lower, second, and third decks.
Now there is no mention of the shape of the ark, just the dimensions. The cubit is an ancient measuring system. There were different cubit measurements, short cubits, long cubits. The long cubit (20.4”) was used for big important building projects and the ark was no exception. So, with that in mind, here are the ark dimension put into feet. The length would be 510’ long, 85’ wide, and 51’ tall. The ark was a ship, with perfect dimensions. Now let’s think about the shape, because it wouldn’t have been a rectangular box shape, because that wouldn’t have worked for the coming flood. Also, the flood was a technological reset, all information would have been lost except for what was on the ark. Ancient ships post flood had storm keeping packages on them, high stems on the bow and stern with a rudder type at the stern that looked like what the future Greek warships had for bows with the battering ram. The ancient Greeks used to build their ships using the mortise and tenon joint system on the hulls, with several layers, which help keep the ship tight and not leak. These techniques helped ancient ships in storms. Where did all these shipbuilding designs come from, because the flood was a technological reset, it would make sense if the ark had these things on it, because it would have been passed down the generations post flood.
Here is the duration of the global cataclysmic flood that ripped the earth apart (including catastrophic plate tectonics) that is talked about in Genesis 7-8.
40 Days and Nights of rain.
5 months of flooding including a peak water level (includes the 40 days).
5 months of recession,
2 months of drying time.
370 Days (assuming a 360-day calendar as deducted from Genesis 7:11 and Genesis 7:24 – 8:4)
On the 17th day of the second month of Noah’s 600th year. The flood starts, the fountains of the deep are opened, and the rain starts. There would be great fissures forming on the earth’s crust.
With the fissures widening on the earth’s crust, the magma comes into contact with the sea water, that makes these massive steam jets. That are sent through the seas, into the upper atmosphere. Making very heavy rainfall globally for 40 days and nights.
Tsunamis start battering what’s left of the parts of the super continent. The parts are moving away from each other very quickly; the land has eroded rapidly. Thus, very large amounts of sediment are carried away.
At this point any land animals that survived the early stages of the flood are now buried in the rapid accumulation of the sediment layers on the covered land masses. This is where we get fossils from. The rapid burial to preserve the animal.
For 150 days the earth is covered by the flood waters 15 cubits (25.50 feet using ancient royal cubit) above the highest hills The fast-moving continental plates collide in under water. This is where mountains come from, because they force the mountain ranges up.
So now in the seventh month on the 17th day. Remember we are still in the 600th year of Noah’s life. The ark comes to rest on the mountains of Ararat. The mountains of Ararat are a result of the flood.
Month ten of Noah’s 600th year the tops of mountains are seen. As the flood waters recede, the mountains rise, land masses continue to rise and with all the water running off. There is large amounts of sediment that are washed away, and canyons are formed very quickly in the rock layers.
In the second month on the 27th day of the month, in 601st year of Noah’s life. Noah, his wife, his three sons, and their wives, and all the animals could leave the ark. In one year, the earth went from a super continent filled with wickedness, to seven continents and oceans we know today. After the flood the earth experienced an ice age (the warm waters, with the earth cooling). Genesis 8:22 NKJV

3“Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs. 4“But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.
The world we have today bears the remainders of the catastrophic global flood. Jesus compared His returning to the days of Noah. Just as Noah, his wife, his three sons, their wives, all the air breathing creatures, dinosaurs, and animals went through the door of the ark to be saved. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is our ark of salvation, only through Jesus can we be saved and have eternal life.
